Do You Hear What I Hear?

1/08/2009

Said the night wind to the little lamb,
"Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
Do you see what I see?
A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite,
With a tail as big as a kite."

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,
"Do you hear what I hear?
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
Do you hear what I hear?
A song, a song high above the trees
With a voice as big as the the sea,
With a voice as big as the the sea."

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,
"Do you know what I know?
In your palace warm, mighty king,
Do you know what I know?
A Child, a Child shivers in the cold--
Let us bring him silver and gold,
Let us bring him silver and gold."

Said the king to the people everywhere,
"Listen to what I say!
Pray for peace, people, everywhere,
Listen to what I say!
The Child, the Child sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light,
He will bring us goodness and light."

Draw Me close To You

6/10/2008

Draw me close to you
Never let me go
I lay it all down again
To hear you say that I'm your friend
You are my desireNo one else will do
Cause nothing else can take your place
To feel the warmth of your embrace
Help me find the way
Bring me back to you

You’re all I want
You’re all I've ever needed
You’re all I want
Help me know you are near

Darknes Like A Shroud

12/14/2007

Darknes Like A Shroud covers the earth;
Evil like a cloud covers the people.
But the Lord will rise upon you,
And His glory will appear on you--
Nations will come to your light.

Arise, shine, your light has come,
The glory of the Lord has risen on you!
Arise, shine, your light has come,
Jesus the Light of the world has come.

Children of the light, be clean and pure.
Rise, you sleepers, Christ will shine on you.
Take the Spirit's flashing two-edged sword
And with faith declare God's mighty word;
Stand up and in His strength be strong.

Here among us now, Christ the light
Kindles brighter flames in our trembling hearts.
Living Word, our lamp, come guide our feet
As we walk as one in light and peace,
Till justice and truth shine like the sun.

Like a city bright so let us blaze;
Lights in every street turning night to day.
And the darkness shall not overcome
Till the fulness of Christ's kingdom comes,
Dawning to God's eternal day.

Day by day

11/22/2007

Day by day and hour by hour,
Your love for me from heaven flows;
Like streams of water in the desert,
Living waters flow.
You walk beside me, gently guiding,
Leading me through every storm.

Everlasting, never changing
Grace and love divine.
Mercy's healing grace, relieving
Every spot and every stain.
Forgiven freely, no more guilty,
Love has conquered shame.
The broken mended, night has ended,
Lost and lonely lost no more;
For I am carried in the arms of
Grace and love divine.

I am carried in the arms
Of grace and love divine;
I am held by hands of healing,
Washed by water pure;
Lifting up my heavy heart,
Held in grace scarred hands,
I am carried in the arms
Of grace and love divine.

Never worthy, never earning,
All my works now left behind.
Ever onwards, ever upwards,
You've called me on to rise
Above my darkness, all my failure,
Every fear and every pain.
Always carried, always covered by
Grace and love divine.

Do This; Remember Me!

10/04/2007

Our Lord and His disciples at table were as one,
And Jesus thought of the morrow, His work here nearly done.
With one last night together, they knew not what would be,
But Jesus had one final word:
“Do This; Remember Me!”

Thanksgiving to the Father, an ancient feast made new.
Christ said, “This is My body, My body giv’n for you.”
The holy bread was broken and shared with Jesus’ plea
That His words not be forgotten:
“Do This; Remember Me!”

He took the cup of blessing, the blood of Jesus shed
That all might know forgiveness, received when Jesus bled.
Salvation now available to all on bended knee
Who repent and follow His command:
“Do This; Remember Me!”

Yes, Christ’s command continues to all who serve His Name
To go and make disciples, that all would sing His fame.
And gathered at one table His holy church shall see
Our Master is still calling:
“Do This; Remember Me!”

Do Not Worry

Do not worry for your life,
What you’ll eat or drink or wear;
Is not life much more important
Than these things that cause you care?
See the birds—they sow and reap not,
Nor in barns do store away.
Yet your heav’nly Father feeds them;
Have you not more worth than they?

And why worry about clothing?
See the lilies’ glad array;
Solomon in all his splendor
Never dressed as fine as they.
This is how God clothes the grasses,
Though their life is but a day.
Will He not much more meet your needs?
Let your faith not fade away.

So I tell you, do not worry,
Asking what you’ll eat or drink.
Nor be anxious about clothing—
These are things that all men seek.
And your Father knows you need them;
Worry won’t command His power.
Which of you by constant fretting
Adds to life a single hour?

Seek first, then, your Father’s kingdom
And His righteousness on high.
All these things will then be given;
God will not neglect your cry.
So fret not about tomorrow;
God directs the future, too.
Though each day will bring its troubles,
Trust in Him—He’ll see you through.

Do not I Love Thee, O my Lord?

Do not I love Thee, O my Lord?
Behold my heart and see;
And turn each cursèd idol out,
That dares to rival Thee.

Do not I love Thee, O my Lord?
Then let me nothing love;
Dead be my heart to every joy,
When Jesus cannot move.

Is not Thy Name melodious still
To mine attentive ear?
Doth not each pulse with pleasure bound
My Savior’s voice to hear?

Hast Thou a lamb in all Thy flock
I would disdain to feed?
Hast Thou a foe, before whose face
I fear Thy cause to plead?

Would not mine ardent spirit vie
With angels round the throne,
To execute Thy sacred will,
And make Thy glory known?

Would not my heart pour forth its blood
In honor of Thy Name?
And challenge the cold hand of death
To damp th’immortal flame?

Thou know’st I love Thee, dearest Lord,
But O, I long to soar
Far from the sphere of mortal joys,
And learn to love Thee more!

DO NO SINFUL ACTION

Do no sinful action,
Speak no angry word;
Ye belong to Jesus,
Children of the Lord.

Christ is kind and gentle,
Christ is pure and true;
And His little children
Must be holy, too.

There’s a wicked spirit
Watching round you still,
And he tries to tempt you
To all harm and ill.

But ye must not hear him,
Though ’tis hard for you
To resist the evil,
And the good to do.

For ye promised truly,
In your infant days,
To renounce him wholly,
And forsake his ways.

Ye are newborn Christians,
Ye must learn to fight
With the bad within you,
And to do the right.

Christ is your own Master,
He is good and true,
And His little children
Must be holy, too.

DIVES AND LAZARUS

As it fell out upon one day,
Rich Divès made a feast,
And he invited all his friends,
And gentry of the best.

Then Lazarus laid him down and down
And down at Divès’ door:
“Some meat and drink, brother, Diverus,
Bestow upon the poor.”

“Thou’rt none of my brothers, Lazarus,
That liest begging at my door;
No meat, nor drink will I give thee,
Nor bestow upon the poor.”

Then Lazarus laid him down and down,
All under Divès’ wall:
“Some meat, some drink, brother Diverus,
For hunger starve I shall.”

“Thou’rt none of my brothers, Lazarus,
That liest begging at my gate;
No meat, no drink will I give thee,
For Jesus Christ His sake.”

Then Divès sent out his hungry dogs,
To bite him as he lay;
They hadn’t the power to bite one bite,
But licked his sores away.

Then Divès sent to his merry men,
To worry poor Lazarus away;
They’d not the power to strike one stroke,
But flung their whips away.

As it fell out upon one day,
Poor Lazarus sickened and died;
There came two angels out of heaven,
His soul therein to guide.

“Rise up! rise up! brother Lazarus,
And go along with me;
For you’ve a place prepared in heaven,
To sit on an angel’s knee.”

As it fell out upon one day,
Rich Divès sickened and died;
There came two serpents out of hell,
His soul therein to guide.

“Rise up! rise up! brother Diverus,
And come along with me;
There is a place provided in hell
For wicked men like thee.”

Then Divès looked up with his eyes
And saw poor Lazarus blest;
“Give me one drop of water, brother Lazarus,
To quench my flaming thirst.”

“O, was I now but alive again
The space of one half hour!
O, that I had my peace again
Then the devil should have no power.”

Disciples of All Nations

Disciples of all nations,
The Lord calls us to make,
Baptizing new believers
And making idols shake.
He shows us the examples,
Of how we should respond,
In Scripture stories glorious
Of servants now long gone.

Like Samuel in the temple,
When came the midnight call,
Obedient to his master,
He hurried down the hall.
Not fully understanding,
Ignoring any fears,
He gave courageous answer,
“Speak, Lord, Your servant hears.”

Like Gideon of Manasseh,
We think ourselves too small,
But God the Lord is with us,
A tower that cannot fall.
We need no mighty army,
No weapons made of man;
Watch God supply the helpers,
And then reveal the plan.

As Abraham gave Isaac,
As parents so may we
Be asked to give our children
For service full and free.
If asked, then, do not falter,
But send them on their way
To spread the wondrous tidings,
That night may turn to day.

As Moses stood in Egypt,
And God gave words to speak,
So will He give us boldness,
Though we be frail and weak.
His Spirit will empower us
To reach the sinner’s heart
And bring the lost to Jesus,
As destined from the start.

Like Samson consecrated,
If we stay true to God,
He gives us strength and power,
The Spirit’s mighty rod.
But if we fall away, then,
Our weakness will return;
So pray, stay loyal, faithful,
And God His might will lend.

Like Paul, there may be suffering,
And heavy the demands,
But heed not the rejection,
And hold to His commands.
“Teach all that I have taught you,
As witnesses be true;
Tell all the world My Gospel,
And I will be with you.”

DEPTH OF MERCY

Depth of mercy! Can there be
Mercy still reserved for me?
Can my God His wrath forbear,
Me, the chief of sinners, spare?

I have long withstood His grace,
Long provoked Him to His face,
Would not hearken to His calls,
Grieved Him by a thousand falls.

I have spilt His precious blood,
Trampled on the Son of God,
Filled with pangs unspeakable,
I, who yet am not in hell!

I my Master have denied,
I afresh have crucified,
And profaned His hallowed Name,
Put Him to an open shame.

Whence to me this waste of love?
Ask my Advocate above!
See the cause in Jesus’ face,
Now before the throne of grace.

Jesus, answer from above,
Is not all Thy nature love?
Wilt Thou not the wrong forget,
Permit me to kiss Thy feet?

If I rightly read Thy heart,
If Thou all compassion art,
Bow Thine ear, in mercy bow,
Pardon and accept me now.

Jesus speaks, and pleads His blood!
He disarms the wrath of God;
Now my Father’s mercies move,
Justice lingers into love.

Kindled His relentings are,
Me He now delights to spare,
Cries, “How shall I give thee up?”
Lets the lifted thunder drop.

Lo! I still walk on the ground:
Lo! an Advocate is found:
“Hasten not to cut Him down,
Let this barren soul alone.”

There for me the Savior stands,
Shows His wounds and spreads His hands.
God is love! I know, I feel;
Jesus weeps and loves me still.

Pity from Thine eye let fall,
By a look my soul recall;
Now the stone to flesh convert,
Cast a look, and break my heart.

Now incline me to repent,
Let me now my sins lament,
Now my foul revolt deplore,
Weep, believe, and sin no more.

DELIVER ME FROM EVIL

Deliver me from evil, preserve me, Lord, from wrong;
Against the foes that gather be Thou my Helper strong;
From those who plot to hurt me and spread the treacherous snare,
Preserve me, Lord, and keep me safeguarded in Thy care.

O Lord, I have confessed Thee to be my God alone;
O hear my supplication, and be Thy mercy shown;
O God the Lord, my Savior, my Shield amid the strife,
Let not the wicked triumph who plot against my life.

Let evil smite the evil, and cause their overthrow;
The needy and afflicted the Lord will help, I know;
Thy saints, redeemed from evil, their thanks to Thee shall give;
The righteous and the upright shall in Thy presence live.

Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus

Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus
Daily let me go;
Higher, higher in the school of wisdom,
More of grace to know.

O deeper yet, I pray,
And higher every day,
And wiser, blessèd Lord,
In Thy precious, holy Word.

Deeper, deeper, blessèd Holy Spirit,
Take me deeper still,
Till my life is wholly lost in Jesus,
And His perfect will.

O deeper yet, I pray,
And higher every day,
And wiser, blessèd Lord,
In Thy precious, holy Word.

Deeper, deeper! though it cost hard trials,
Deeper let me go!
Rooted in the holy love of Jesus,
Let me fruitful grow.

O deeper yet, I pray,
And higher every day,
And wiser, blessèd Lord,
In Thy precious, holy Word.

Deeper, higher, every day in Jesus,
Till all conflict past,
Finds me conqu’ror, and in His own image
Perfected at last.

O deeper yet, I pray,
And higher every day,
And wiser, blessèd Lord,
In Thy precious, holy Word.

Deeper, deeper in the faith of Jesus,
Holy faith and true;
In His pow’r and soul exulting wisdom
Let me peace pursue.

O deeper yet, I pray,
And higher every day,
And wiser, blessèd Lord,
In Thy precious, holy Word.

Day By Day

9/10/2007

Day by day, and with each passing moment,
Strength I find, to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He Whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best—
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.
Every day, the Lord Himself is near me
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear, and cheer me,
He Whose Name is Counselor and Power;
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
“As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,”
This the pledge to me He made.

Help me then in every tribulation
So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
That I lose not faith’s sweet consolation
Offered me within Thy holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
Ever to take, as from a father’s hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till I reach the promised land.

Dear Guardian of Mary

8/25/2007

Dear Guardian of Mary! dear nurse of her Child!
Life's ways are full weary, the desert is wild.
Bleak sands are all round us, no home can we see.
Sweet Spouse of our Lady, we lean safe on thee.

For thou to the pilgrim art father and guide,
And Jesus and Mary felt safe at thy side.
O Glorious Patron, secure shall I be,
Sweet Spouse of our Lady, if thou stay with me!

God chose thee for Jesus and Mary, wilt thou
Forgive a poor exile fro choosing thee now?
There's no saint in heaven, St. Joseph like thee,
Sweet Spouse of our Lady, do thou plead for me.

Daily, daily 2

Daily, daily sing to Mary,
Sing, my soul, her praises due:
All her feasts, her actions honor
With the heart's devotion true.
Lost in wond'ring contemplation,
Be her majesty confessed:
Call her Mother, call her Virgin,
Happy Mother, Virgin blest.

She is mighty in her pleading,
Tender in her loving care;
Ever watchful, understanding,
All our sorrows she will share.
Advocate and loving mother,
Mediatrix of all grace:
Heaven's blessings she dispenses
On our sinful human race.

All our graces flow through Mary;
All then join her praise to sing:
Fairest work of all creation,
Mother of creation's King.
Sing in songs of peace unending,
Call upon her lovingly:
Seat of wisdom, Gate of heaven,
Morning star upon the sea.

Sing my soul, her praises due:
All her feasts, her actions honor,
With the heart's devotion true.

2 Now in wond'ring contemplation,
Be her majesty confessed;
Call her Mother call her Virgin,
Happy Mother, Virgin blest.

3 She is mighty to deliver;
Call her, trust her lovingly;
When the tempest rages 'round thee,
She will calm the troubled sea.

4 Gifts of heaven she has given,
Noble Lady, to our race;
She the Queen who decks her subjects
With the lights of God's own grace.

5 Sing, my tongue, the Virgin's trophies,
Who for us her Maker bore;
For the curse of old inflicted,
Peace and blessing to restore.

6 Sing in songs of praise unending,
Sing the world's majestic Queen;
Weary not, nor fail in telling
All the gifts she gives to men.
